New Month Refresh!
What a whirlwind the first 5 months of this new year has been! We started out with a new year, new adventures, new training, new journeys, new outlooks, and a new church home. This year has been a year of firsts for everyone! There's a ton of lesson learned, tear cried, there might have been an argument or two, but who keeps count of those?!
As we begin to end out the month of May, we also look forward to the summertime with June just around the corner! We had a good meeting last week with our foster agency and have set new parameters for ages of kids we are willing to take in for now. Our kids need to know that not all foster care placements are raging, yelling, screaming, cussing, hurting themselves, and attempting hurt others. They need to know that there are placements out there for all types of families!
I feel strongly that if you have the space and heart for it, then I urge you to become a foster parent. We all bring our own kind of special to the table in what we can offer. Before you do anything i suggest talking to friends, family, reaching out to message boards, and doing your research before choosing a foster care agency. Research what basic, therapeutic, treatment, and IAFT foster care is. We were slightly underinformed before choosing out paths. We knew without a doubt that God was calling us into foster care but wasn't clear on which route to take. Looking back now we know what we feel we can handle and what we can't at the time.
So with June almost on our doorstep, we are currently in the waiting stages again for a placement. We have narrowed the age gap down from any age depending on circumstances to birth-2 years old. Maybe that means that we aren't called as often. Maybe that means we will never be called. Either way, we go we are preparing and planning for a future little to re-enter our home so we can provide a loving and safe environment for them. If never ends up being the choice at hand then we will reevaluate and make decisions on where to go from there!
In other news, I am currently helping out with Special touch ministries at our church and we have our first service this Sunday! I am excited to be able to run the crafts table, provide delicious cupcakes, and just fellowship with people with all kinds of disabilities. Special Touch is a ministry that provides a church service and worship set for people with disabilities to come and worship the Lord the God intended them to do. It's open to anyone with a disability so if you are reading this and know someone that fits that description, then bring them out for some fun! Service is 4:00-6:00pm at 828 Church in Wilmington NC! Hope to see you there!
